Online UK Elections: Labour vs Conservatives
So the UK political parties are starting to rev up their online engines, before an upcoming elections hoping to take place around March 25 or maybe May 6 but definitely by June 3.
A quick peruse of the two main parties websites revealed some interesting revelations regarding first impressions and in the quick half a minute look an average person spends on a website, the following can be concluded:
Conservatives
The soft, blue touch of the conservatives with bright flashy optimism displayed behind the logo, reveals quite a hip, modern outlook. Not expected from the conservative grey suite wearing movement. No real push for online donations here, the donation form is found at the middle in the bottom and a pale orange yellow colour won’t pot them too much quid online. At least they have a bit of social media shining through, choosing the big 3 (Facebook, Youtube, Twitter) to spread the gospel. No need to be on AsianAve and Blackplanet like Obama
On the other side of the court, Labour’s website is red, a very ballsy decision in terms of colour choice, Blood & anger perhaps, do we sense a bit of an underdog fight here, looking for some revenge. Then images of sharp windmill blades. As much as green & energy is sexy are these blades hinting that the knives are out. First impression was scary. Although the fun, easy menu on the right side is a cool toy to play with and donate, join, be active etc… Social media not too prominent, except for the option to post videos to your Facebook profile.
Then the interesting parts, the online social campaign networks: myconservatives.com and Labourspace.com.
This will be the revelation whether these parties are actively using online activity to promote the overall campaign and mobilise the masses. But this is another post on its own.
